Welcome to Bethel Lutheran Church!
I’m Pastor Rodger Jones, and I have the privilege of serving as the Synod Authorized Minister for Bethel Lutheran Church here in the heart of Chicago’s West Garfield Park community. Bethel has been my home since I was three years old, and today it’s my honor to lead the same congregation that first nurtured my faith.
I am a United States Army Combat Veteran, having served in both Iraq and Afghanistan. My calling in ministry is fueled by a passion to make a difference not only in our community but also in the world. I believe in equipping new leaders, inspiring discipleship, and encouraging us all to not just go to church — but to be the church. My heart beats for vibrant worship and bold outreach that changes lives.
Currently, I’m a TEEM (Theological Education for Emerging Ministries) student with Pacific Lutheran Seminary, preparing for even greater service to God’s people. One of my favorite sayings comes from my first pastor, the late Rev. David T. Nelson, who often declared, “You ain’t seen nothing yet!” I stand on that same faith and vision, adding my own reminder for Bethel: “The Best Is Yet to Come!”
